Why You Shouldn’t Reprint Articles on Your Blog
Posted on February 4, 2008
If you take a look around my site, you’ll see that I’ve written 100% of the articles and eCourses. Even if I do a press release or an affiliate promotion, I never just copy and paste material.
We’ve previously talked about how your content makes your site. Well, a big mistake that I’ve seen other people do is to find articles from other sources, and either write their entire article on it, or send your reader to it.
You want your readers to stay here, because if you are successful in creating a fan base, then they will see the value of your blog and stick around. But that means that you have to create something for them to read.
You shouldn’t view other web sites in your niche as competition, but rather sisters and brothers. These people also have something to offer, because people go to their sites too. But, if you are like me, you will often visit many sites in a niche, not just be a die hard fan of one.
Your goal is to create a solid, long-term friendship with all of your readers. You should think of them as friends, because they are. Write articles for THEM and they will continue to be your friends. It’s a simple idea really.
Think of it this way. I recently bought a car from a nearby dealer. Maybe I wasn’t too smart by buying a new car, but I got a really good deal and I love it. Along with my car is a lifetime (the car’s, not mine) supply of free car washes. Well, my boyfriend, who is also a big fan of this model, immediately decided that he too wants to buy his next car from that dealer.
What that dealer did is create a long-standing friendship with me. They continue to treat me right by giving me free car washes, and I will continue to buy from them. We are both happy.
Treat every person on your site the same way. You want to create a RELATIONSHIP with them. The best way to do that is to create original, quality content that is valuable to them, and they will reward you by returning to your site.
